Profile: Dr Allison Rose
Dr Allison Rose obtained her medical degree from The University of Melbourne. She underwent general radiology training at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, attaining M.Med. FRANZCR in 1988. She was appointed as a consultant radiologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in 1989 after a period in London working to gain experience in women’s imaging.
Allison was one of the original radiologists with the Victorian Pilot Program for the Early Detection of Breast Cancer from 1989 under the auspice of The Royal Melbourne Hospital and became Director in 1999.
In 2009 she took up the role of Head of Breast imaging for the combined Royal Melbourne & Royal Women’s Hospital Breast Service & in this role she has led the team to develop fully integrated comprehensive breast imaging across diagnostic and screening services. She was instrumental in establishing Breast MRI & MRI guided biopsy for the service.
Allison is a keen educator having received a university award for outstanding contribution to the Victorian Registrar Teaching Program. From 2001-2006 she was Deputy Director of the Radiology Department at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and was the main champion for implementation of enterprise wide PACS. These experiences have equipped her with sufficient courage to mount this IT intensive course & provide a unique hands-on experience which addresses the needs of Australian radiologists to meet the challenges of the new technology.
