Profile: Dr Clair L Shadbolt MBChB, FRANZCR

Clair obtained her medical degree from Otago University in Dunedin and underwent general radiology training at Auckland Hospital in New Zealand before spending her final year of training in London at the Hammersmith and Royal Marsden Hospitals. She also gained experience at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

Clair commenced 2 years of MRI Fellowship in the USA, in 2000 at the University of California, Irvine, in Musculoskeletal and Neuro MRI, followed by an Oncology / Body MRI fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre in New York City.

Currently Clair divides her working week between the Alfred Hospital, The Women’s Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne continuing her interest in Body/Oncology and Breast MRI. She was involved in setting up the Breast MRI screening service for young women at high risk at PMCC.

Clair has authored several peer-reviewed journal articles, presented papers / posters at both local and international radiology meetings and was appointed to the Australian Breast MRI working party that was successful in gaining MSAC approval for a Medicare rebate for Breast MRI in young women of high genetic risk.
